Rates 40% lower than the national average

While that alone is something to be proud of, our past few months’ Electric Cost Adjustment (ECA) tells an even better story.

As a member-owned cooperative, we don’t pocket income that exceeds our expenses. One way we regulate that is through the ECA, a fluctuating line item on your bill used to achieve a uniform and consistent annual rate of return.

  • While the ECA is sometimes needed to collect additional revenue to match expenses, we happily posted negative ECAs for the last eight months of 2024, to collect less revenue:
That means you have been saving up to a penny per kilowatt hour versus the actual 11-cent rate.

The bigger picture: Utility rates have gone up nearly 30% on average across the country since 2019. But for us, considering our recent negative electric cost adjustments, our 2024 small residential kWh rate has effectively remained unchanged over those five years!

Get a $5 bill credit for switching to paperless billing

Not only does paperless billing save trees, but it also saves our co-op the repeated expense of mailing monthly bills.

For members not already enrolled, you can:

  • Earn a one-time $5 bill credit for switching to paperless billing
  • Earn an additional one-time $5 bill credit for switching to automatic checking account payments

It only takes a few easy clicks in SmartHub!

Last call for this year's youth leadership programs

Applications are due soon for our two all-expenses-paid, once-in-a-lifetime youth leadership opportunities:

  • Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, DC ~ June 2025
  • Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp in Steamboat Springs ~ July 2025

We invite all high school juniors and seniors of Holy Cross Energy members to apply!

Your voice will be heard, now more than ever!

The Holy Cross Energy Board of Directors recently approved two noteworthy changes to our tariffs and bylaws:

  • The Board will now collect member feedback on all proposed tariff changes prior to initiating an official Board vote (previously, feedback was solicited after the official vote).
  • The Board has also implemented new term limits for directors. Starting with directors elected in this year’s elections, members will be limited to serving three four-year terms (or 12 years), ensuring that new members will always have the opportunity to help lead the co-op.

Our rebates are here to stay!

From big-ticket items like heat pump water heaters to less-visible (but equally important!) upgrades like insulation, we’re here to help with the cost of your energy efficiency and electrification investments:

  • Residential Rebates
25% of your total project cost, up to $3,000 per year
  • Income-Qualified Residential Rebates
50% of your total project cost, up to $7,500 per year

Safety and security continue to be top priorities

We recently received recognition for our continued efforts toward operating a safe and secure electric distribution grid:

  • The NRECA Cyber Goals: Level One Certification ensures we are implementing high-priority security measures to protect our critical infrastructure and support service reliability for our members.
  • The RESAP Certificate of Safety Achievement confirms that we are optimizing cross-organizational safety practices and fostering improved safety behavior, and we passed a rigorous set of inspections to prove it.

Kudos to our dedicated safety and security teams for these accomplishments, and thanks to all HCE employees who work every day to keep our grid safe and secure for our members!
